As someone who’s still enrolled in full time state education, most of the free time I have now occurs over the weekend, when the markets are closed. I’ve been able to make a few trades this week, between different classes, but I’m never able to fully dedicate myself to practicing and developing new strategies or ideas during the time that the market is open.
What do you think the best thing I could be doing over the weekend?
PS. I take no great satisfaction in ‘relaxation’ or ‘leisure time’
On Saturdays, I usually take some time to review my trades for the past week and figure out if there are any aspects I need to improve on. Mostly this is about trading psychology so I also try to read a few articles or books that could help. On Sundays, I try to prep for the upcoming trading week by taking a quick glance at the forex calendar and identifying the events that I could structure a trade around.
I am also enrolled full time in university at the moment but I don’t have a problem making trades during the week. I suspect that you may be trading a shorter timeframe? I trade on 4 hour and daily charts which means I’m trading the longer swings in the market (70-100 pips a trade). I can usually make about 2 or 3 trades a week by trading two pairs.
If you have lots of lectures during the day like I have then I suggest you trade a similar timeframe to me. Of course, you may need to adapt your strategy to a higher timeframe, for example, using larger stop losses, etc.
You can always swing for long-time trading. Analyze the markets. Set pending orders, SL,TP. And you can just let the run. As an option, you can start trading with EA and spend the weekend to choose the right one!
My main focus is on knowing new systems during wweekends. i do planning for next week how to trade in market. I use to read different articles and analysis for new week . i analyse my own performance too to find mistakes so that I can make better trading.
Since forex markets are basically open 24/5 I am sure you could trade during the day. One thing I can recommend since you said you do your analysis over the weekend and do not have the time during the week is to focus more on long-term timeframes like D1 or maybe even W1.
In the end it all comes down to what you prefer and feel comfortable with as there is no right or wrong approach to how and when you trade.
