The regulators in the EU and here in the UK think that 30:1 is the maximum. Which I suppose means that’s also what the reputable member firms in the sector think.
So as a new trader, why would you go for something higher? There’s always the opportunity to increase it once you start making money.
If you’re a novice investor, there’s little reason to venture into margin trading. You need a margin account in order to sell stocks short, also known as short selling. With this speculative trading strategy, you profit from a decline in a stock’s price.
