Where can I download free historical data for backtesting and optimization?

I spoke to the broker and he told me that the historical data available in the MT4 is what is available and I need older data.
I won’t name names, otherwise I’ll get another warning, but there are several well-known data providers from whom you can obtain Forex data and import them in MT4/5. M1 data should be perfectly adequate for backtesting, unless you have scalper bots. I use the data myself for the robustness tests of my bots.
Most brokers provide it for free through their platforms. Just open a demo account, go to the data section, and download historical candles for your preferred pairs and timeframes.
Dukascopy or HistData, just make sure it matches your platform and time zone before backtesting.
