Wild Movement

As I don’t read the news, I was left a bit perplexed as to what caused all the movement today. There was some pretty impressive swings today. Any success/horror stories from today?

For me, 4 of my 5 trades were on the better side of things and I walked away with a cool 15% return. Ridiculous returns for a single day.

I recall a day like this last year and a trader in the chatroom claimed to have lost over 100k from the movement that occurred.

Apparently there was a ‘fat finger’ incident causing some chaos on the markets.

Im sure if you google news it, youll find the details.

I missed 138 pips in 6 hours on the NZD/USD last night I was in a short and closed it out before the massive drop.

Gutted.

Wall Street has issues.

Apparently there was an erroneous electronic trade, and when it started falling, stops started getting hit, which then caused more of a drop, and more sell panic.

Then the problem was identified, corrected, and it bounced back up.

DJ average sat a new record for the biggest drop ever in a day, of slightly over 1,000 points,

In back to back 15 minute periods, it went down 700 points, and then right back up 600.

The freaky thing is it happens on an election day in GB, and the Greek riots.

Should be very interesting as to what happens to the market. Already the Asian session is seeing dramatically lower opens.

Yeah and no doubt some shonky firms/traders would have ridden the down then up netting tens of millions in the process.

Shady old world the finance markets.

I remember him, and I remember some one who got scammed by him too…chubby chub

I’m up 600 pips on EU, was over 700. I’m trend trading and my stops are locked in 50% the atr past a 10 moving average, which I reset at the end of each day, right now I have over 100 pips locked in.

We’ll see how far this trade takes me. Not bad for one trade thats only been going 9 days.

I think I have enough stop room to hold over the weekend for any gap. I’m hoping tommorows news gives me another boost before friday as my broker closes for the weekend.

well done man!

It was a fun day.

It’ll be interesting to see how the next couple weeks play out. These are some pretty significant bars and this most likely shook up the market pretty decent. I imagine there’ll be a lot of range bound movement going on until price breaks the high/low of those massive candles.

Theres more 2008 style trouble ahead, plenty of it.

I agree, I’m glad I’ve got a decent sized account to trade with this time around and an extra 2 years trading experience.

I noticed the GBP got sold off, and the JPY got bought, so I checked the GBP/JPY and noticed a ridiculous drop. 1230pip range on the thursday candle

I bet a lot of new traders learned what stop losses are for this week…

and of course the pros likely missed the boat, eyeing the juicy ranges wishing they had a crystal ball thursday morning hah!
