Moved over to trialling short-term positions just lately and the holiday time seems to have pretty constricted daily ranges. Think I’ll take some time out and get back to this in January. Best wishes all!
Christmas trading is boring. I’ll rather spend some quality time with family and friends.
You’re assuming forex is Christian. My broker is a capitalistic pig though so I’ll enter a trend before holidays and weekends.
Yes I do; since market is open I always looking for good opportunities.
Sure i will can the Market, if i get some potential trades that fit my Trading Plan, will definitely pull he Trigger.
Well, I wish you success in that case.
Christmas was yesterday. I did take a break from the platform to have some time to myself until Forexchief sent me an alert that my withdrawal has gone through. That was the only time I had to open my laptop.
Same here; I also like to observe the market movements by my phone only without trading.
Sorry for not being able to respond earlier! But I’m suuuuper happy to get to read your responses!
I didn’t trade (but that’s mostly because there wasn’t any connection at my location then ) BUT! Whether you celebrated the holiday or not, or whether you put in a trade or not, I hope you guys enjoyed yourselves! New year’s coming up! I’m super psyched for that.
good luck @ria_rose and happy new year!
What will you try to focus on with your demo?
Trading has a lot of misrepresentation as a high-intensity sport where you would be spending hours in front of the screen every day: there are times when that is unnecessary and unproductive, and indeed when the US and European stock exchanges close for Christmas and New Year there is not a lot of volume, as several people have said on this thread before me.
Still, if your charts are ready and you are keen to start, you can watch them regardless, just be mindful that it may not be a good trading environment for any system.
One more point: there is volatility around at quiet, low-volume periods, but this may be due to widening spreads and thinner liquidity, making for more-than-average unpredictable moves in stocks as in currencies.
While volatility is needed for trading, the ‘wrong’ kind of volatility can spell more risk than it is worth.
Thanks for the advice PipMeHappy! I’m so sorry for the late response. I kinda enjoyed the holidays a bit too much. With that said, I wasn’t able to do any trading. I plan to make up for that this week! I’m so happy to be back. I hope you happily celebrated the holidays.
You make a good point @PipMeHappy, low volume is a risk that any trader should be thinking about. If there was a major volatility inducing event and there is no volume, at what price will you get filled if you have to close a position or get margin called? Spreads could widen 100’s of pips and lots of stops getting hit on both the long and short side.
It seems like there are a lot of newbie traders here, so I understand the under-appreciation of the risk. It’s not a big deal until it is.
The Christmas holidays are over, 2019 is here, have you all started trading again yet? Today I just watched the market, I confess.
I made over 50 pips on EURCAD today and a few more positive trades also. Off to a great start for the new year!
I managed to catch about 30 pips of the USDCAD move down and that’s about it for me today.
Just starting to get back in. Figured I’ll get in here to pick up some “tradespiration.” Good to see everyone again!
Babypips is always a great place to do that. A great place to get good trading advice too.
I didn’t do any trading during the holidays. I just had so much to do. But I was checking out crypto movements.
Hopefully I’ll get good setups this week. Good luck on your trades @ria_rose.
