Ohio leaders, White House and Jewish groups condemn ‘vile and racist’ neo-Nazi march

A group chanted racial slurs and white nationalist slogans while carrying Nazi flags through Columbus on Saturday.

The White House on Monday joined city, state and Jewish community leaders in Ohio condemning a small group who marched through Columbus on Saturday chanting racial slurs and white nationalist slogans while carrying Nazi flags.

NBC affiliate WCMH of Columbus reported that it received eyewitness reports of the march around 1:45 p.m. Saturday in the state capital’s Short North Arts District.

Videos uploaded to social media and geolocated by NBC News to the same neighborhood showed at least 11 people carrying black flags with red swastikas and wearing black outfits with red masks, chanting slogans such as “Bow down, [n-word]!” into a bullhorn.

“President Biden abhors the hateful poison of Nazism, anti-semitism, and racism — which are hostile to everything the United States stands for, including protecting the dignity of all our citizens and the freedom to worship,” White House spokesperson Andrew Bates said in a statement Monday morning.

The news comes a week after protesters waved Nazi flags outside a community production of “The Diary of Anne Frank” in Michigan, to the shock of performers and theatergoers.

“We will not tolerate hate in Ohio. Neo-Nazis — their faces hidden behind red masks — roamed streets in Columbus today, carrying Nazi flags and spewing vile and racist speech against people of color and Jews,” Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine said in a statement on X.

When President Roosevelt created welfare, it was meant for people who needed it. Did he inherently incentivize laziness?

What would happen if in 10 years we slowly defunded and abolished welfare, food stamps, etc?

In the words of Harvard’s Paul Peterson, “some programs actively discouraged marriage,” because “welfare assistance went to mothers so long as no male was boarding in the household…

Marriage to an employed male, even one earning the minimum wage, placed at risk a mother’s economic well-being.” Infamous “man in the house” rules meant that welfare workers would randomly appear in homes to check and see if the mother was accurately reporting her family-status.

Removing welfare benefits without an adequate number of job opportunities available for the people would lead to a significant issue. While I acknowledge that welfare was not intended to be a lifelong support system, it is important to recognize that, at this juncture, welfare assistance contributes to the GDP and has created jobs just like the issue of drug dealing and abuse.

There are companies that not only depend on individuals receiving welfare benefits but also generate billions of dollars annually. From grocery stores to the manufacturers supplying them, the range is vast, creating a prominent oligarchic situation.

It is what it is.

This was part of Britain’s problem which contributed to Brexit. Britain has a strong economy so, people from the worst parts of the EU rushed there. Eventually Britain realized it was bringing more to the table than receiving. Germany seems to welcome the influx of immigrants, and is even seeking to lax their immigration policy even more.

I wonder what the cons are…

Could this backfire?

Yes, it could.

German population hits all-time high

According to official statistics, the number of people living in the EU’s largest nation grew due to record migration.

Germany’s population rose to an all-time high of 84.3 million people in 2022, driven by record net immigration, the Federal Statistical Office, more commonly known as Destatis, reported on Thursday.

“This was the highest number of inhabitants ever recorded at the end of a year,” Destatis said in a statement.

According to a first estimate, the country’s population grew by 1.1 million people.

More migrants arriving than leaving

“The strong growth was caused by record net immigration,” Destatis said.

The statistics office estimated that between 1.42 to 1.45 million more people came to Germany than had moved abroad.

Most immigrants were people fleeing the war in Ukraine, but there was also a “significant” increase in people from elsewhere.

“This means that net immigration was more than four times higher than in the previous year and higher than at any time since the beginning of the time series,” Destatis said.

At the same time, the number of births has declined, and the number of deaths has increased.

The number of births fell by about 7% compared to 2021 and is expected to be between 735,000 and 745,000.

In 2022, 1.06 million people died, 4% more than in the previous year.

Right.

And what about any strain on public services?

Housing?

Are prices going up?

The article doesn’t mention what kind of people are coming in. Only some are escaping Ukraine. What about the rest?

Are they skilled laborers? Do they have criminal records?

Are these people learning German?

Let’s assume, for instance, that 1 million Germans depart and 1 million non-Germans enter the nation every year for the next 10 years; this will undoubtedly alter the country’s composition. Additionally, do they assimilate into German culture or retain their own since they don’t genuinely identify as German? It could certainly lead to negative outcomes.

This is an issue that Western Europe needs to resolve; part of it may be the guilt you have mentioned previously about the Democrats, but who knows?

It may appear to be a simple solution, yet there appears to be a powerful force that prevents the course from halting this trend; I’m uncertain.

I think Britain was right to leave the EU.

If Germany gets its head in straight it might do the same.

Germans seem to be very industrious and hard-working. They’ve earned their economy. I really don’t know what they’re thinking with such open immigration policies.

What game are they playing? Building their workforce?

For the democrats in the US, they wanted to rush in immigrants in order to boost democrat votes.

But what are the Germans getting at? Time will tell.

Like you said, it could lead to some negative outcomes. I hope they’re ready for them.

Did Britain change course on its immigration policies, as I remember there was a big fuss about that.

Maybe it’s really just about maintaining their workforce population.

They’re trying not to end up like Japan.

If a nation permits me to immigrate to their land, the last thing I would do is engage in a terrorist act in the host nation.

German Christmas market attack – latest: Death toll rises to five with 200 injured after ‘brutal’ car attack

Five people have now died after a car ploughed into a busy Christmas market in eastern Germany on Friday, with a further 200 people injured, authorities have confirmed.

Among the dead is a nine-year-old child, who was confirmed to have been killed on Friday following the attack at around 7pm. According to German media, 41 people have been critically injured, 90 seriously injured and a further 80 are suffering minor injuries.

Speaking at the scene in Magdeburg on Saturday, German chancellor Olaf Scholz told reporters: “What a terrible act it is to injure and kill so many people there with such brutality. Almost 40 are so seriously injured that we must be very worried about them.”

Police have arrested a 50-year-old Saudi doctor identified by local media as Taleb A, who had lived in Germany since 2006 and reportedly sympathised with Germany’s far-right Alternative for Germany party.

From an immigration pov seems leaving the EU & reducing nett immigration didn’t work out as promised:
Net migration was unusually high in the year ending June 2024, at 728,000, driven by an increase in non-EU citizens coming to the UK.
(The Migration Observatory)

From a business pov - many of my GB colleagues find themselves at a disadvantage over us in NI who left the EU but yet kept within the single market.

I can buy from Italy w/out border costs, sell to Ireland likewise - no customs, no hassles.

Often wonder why the rest of UK didn’t do the same i.e. stay in the market but outside free movement of ppl.

What the f—- is wrong with people? How does that affect any kind of political agenda? What’s the point?

It’s the dumbest strategy ever.

Hurting innocent people achieves nothing. Go hurt corrupt politicians. That makes more sense.

I don’t understand what that achieves apart from being regarded as a terrorist.
