Official data released in the small hours of the morning indicated Japanese leading index revised up, while the coincident index was revised down in January.

The yen continued an advance from the previous session against the greenback Friday morning in New York. The yen climbed to 116.55 approaching mid-morning, up from an overnight level of around 117. Investors were nervously awaiting a slew of key US economic data including consumer prices and consumer sentiment.
