Okay, in the spirit of jumping from topic to topic in a pub I have a serious issue, on which I could do with some advice:
As some of you know, Iâm not a newbie at trading ⌠but I am a total noob at trading online and hence know next to nothing about online trading platforms such as MT4.
When in the chat room some days ago with Master Tang, I complained about not being able to place S/L and T/P when opening a position with MT4, due to my broker being ECN and thus using âMarket Executionâ, not âInstant Executionâ.
MT said he had no problems placing S/L and T/P right together with the original position, even with his ECN broker.
Now I have been looking at the FAQs of my broker and found this, in reply to the question âI canât place a stop loss or take profit order on my tradeâ: 'On market execution you cannot place your pending orders before execution of the entry order. After placing the trade, you can add your stop/limit orders through the Terminal.'
Meaning I have to open a position and then, once itâs opened, use the Edit Order function to add S/L and T/P manually.
While this does not present a problem in itself (even though it is a bit cumbersome) for the time being, since I will only trade manually, I wonder how to place S/L and T/P when using an EA, at a later stage.
Is it even possible to program an EA in a way that it will access existing positions to add S/L and T/P to it? And even if it is possible, wouldnât it be a lot of effort to program it accordingly?
I am also wondering whether this is a peculiarity of my brokerâs or whether it is thus with all STP/ECN brokers.
I would be grateful to get some feedback on this, especially from somebody like Buckscoder, who seems to be an expert on EAs.
Off-topic: One thing I liked about my brokerâs FAQ page was their reply to the question âDo you offer bonuses?â Answer: 'No. We ask traders to be wary of Brokers that offer bonuses and free money.'
I think this goes some way to show that a broker is serious, and is not an âOnline Casinoâ.
Cheers,
O.
P.S.: Yay, post #100 ⌠not too shabby, in two weeks.
P.P.S.: Another YAY!! (after having published the post) ⌠Iâm not a Newbie anymore, haha.
