Many thanks… am bookmarking this.
Dear Trader,
We’re continuously upgrading our systems so that we can offer you our fastest and most reliable services. We’ve now enhanced the service for our MetaTrader 4 (MT4) and MetaTrader 5 (MT5) clients by switching from Internet Protocol (IP) addresses to Domain Name Server (DNS) references. The update applies to both our Live and Demo accounts.
What do you need to do?
You shouldn’t need to do anything because the changes have been implemented automatically. If, however, you need to input your DNS server reference manually, please choose the correct one from this list. Ensure that you select the server corresponding to your account type.

Please be aware that Friday, 29 March 2013 and Monday, 1 April 2013, are public holidays in the UK and other countries. Consequently, our trading and business hours will be affected.
Trading hours
The hours below apply to the relevant products, no matter on which of our platforms you trade. Times are EET (MetaTrader time, GMT+2), 24-hour clock.
We’re here to help
We’ll be here to support you over the holidays but please be aware that there will be fewer of us in the office during that period and we’ll be available at these times (UK time, which is GMT on Friday, 29 March, and GMT+1 on Monday, 1 April):
Please note, our live chat will not be available during this period.
We’d also like to inform you that no new content will be available on Trading Central, our research tool, on 29 March and 1 April.
Normal trading/business hours and services will resume on Tuesday, 2 April 2013.

Small market movements matter. That’s why on Monday, 8 April 2013, we’re changing the minimum gold and silver price increment from 1 US cent to 0.1 US cent (USD0.010 to USD0.001) on the MetaTrader 4 platform. This way you can benefit from smaller price moves quicker while at the same time receiving tighter spreads, better execution and more price updates.
What does this mean?
This means that the minimum price increment for gold (XAUUSD) and silver (XAGUSD) will be USD0.001. For example, after the change, the XAUUSD price movement would be 1603.201, 1603.202, 1603.203 etc.
Please be aware that if you want to match exact instant execution price, you may experience re-quotes. Therefore we’d advise you to set up deviation in your trading platform to 50 when trading gold or silver.
What about profit and loss calculation?
Profit and loss will be calculated using standard math rounding. For example, if your profit or loss from a trade is 3.1 US cents, it will be rounded down to 3.0 US cents. If your profit or loss is 3.5 US cents, it will be rounded up to 4.0 cents.

Can Mr Chadwick please explain this: Huge candle, the last candle for Friday night 12 April @ 22:00. Every other broker had “normal” candle for this period - 30-40 pip difference. First thing this morning and the huge candle has disappeared, replaced with something more modest - not even a wick. Are you feeding your customers duff data?
Last bar of Friday night, 12 April
First bar on Monday and… hey presto! The large candle from Friday has disappeared
Hi DonaldQ,
The wide spread in the last second of trading was simply a bad price from a single provider (although probably a fair reflection of their interest in trading in the last second of trading). On the basis that it wasn’t really representative of the market state at that time, we have amended the chart.

Do Alpari offer/provide NY Close charts
thanks
PG
Hi PG,
Our candles are based on Eastern European Time (EET) or UK time +2. The first candle in the chart starts on Monday at 00:00:00 EET and the last candle closes on Friday at 23: 59:59 EET, which coincidentally does coincide with the NY close time of 17:00 Eastern Standard Time (EST). As long as the time difference between the UK and US is five hours this will be the case.
However, there are a couple of weeks in the year when this is out of sync. This is because of daylight saving time. In the United States, daylight saving time starts on the second Sunday of March and ends on the first Sunday of November. In the United Kingdom, it starts on the last Sunday in March and ends on the last Sunday in October. For 2013, the daylight saving time in the US will start on Sunday, 10 March 2013 and ends on Sunday, 3 November 2013. While in the UK, the daylight saving time will start on Sunday, 31 March 2013 and end on Sunday, 27 October 2013.

many thanks Alex.
We know that many traders would like to access MT4 from their Macs. Now you can easily install MT4 on the OS X operating system from your Mac computer.
Even though MetaTrader 4 is a native Windows application, with the help of an emulator, you can easily install MT4 on a computer running OS X. To do that, you need to install an app called PlayOnMac that will create a virtual environment for the platform. MT4 will then run within that environment and you can trade the same way you would on a PC.
To help you get started, we’ve created a handy guide for you on how to install PlayOnMac and the platform.

I have a demo account at Alpari UK Metatrader 4. I remained without electricity while I had Alpari UK opened. After that I couldn’t connect anymore to Alpari and I can’t use my account. It says no connection. My demo account from Metatrader 5 still works well. I tried to uninstall MT4 and install again but it seems it can’t be deleted completely from my computer even if I uninstall it. When I install again the same charts, the same settings, the same no connection appear. What happened and what can I do to have access to MT4 again?
Hi Pokkerface,
It sounds like you may be using Windows 7 or Vista.
Therefore, my suggestion is to first try uninstalling MT4 and re-installing the latest build of MT4 following the process described below:
1. If you have any profiles/templates/indicators/EAs that you have created and wish to keep, please back them up BEFORE uninstalling MT4. Either right click on them and copy and paste in a different destination folder, or drag and drop them on the desktop, whatever ensures that you have them saved safely as installing the new platform can over-ride the settings and delete the indicators as mentioned.
2. If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, you will also need to remove the Virtualization Folder for MT4 in Windows Vista. The location is usually <user>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore.
AppData is a hidden directory, so you may need to change your Windows Explorer settings to make it visible.
Please ensure MT4 is fully removed from this location.
3. After uninstalling MT4, restart your PC, and download MT4 from this link
Please save it in a different location than the one previously used and then Run As Administrator (as it is a home PC, you would be running as Administrator).
4. Once the installation is complete, cut the folders of the Profiles\Templates\Indicators\EAs that you backed up and paste them back in to Metatrader folder in Program Files
5. Click on the MT4 icon => Go to File => Log in, and enter your log in information.

Dear Trader,
As of 1 August 2013, MetaQuotes, the developer of the MetaTrader platform, will stop supporting MetaTrader 4 (MT4) builds lower than 500. This means you will need to upgrade your platform to the latest build, otherwise you won’t be able to connect to the trading server to access your platform.
If you’re running a lower build of the MT4 terminal than 500, please download the newest version of the platform and reinstall it on your PC.
If you need help with downloading and reinstalling the platform, please use our simple how-to guide.
