Dear trader,

As a result of the recent MetaTrader 4 (MT4) Build 600 upgrade implemented by MetaQuotes, the folders within the MT4 folder have moved. In addition, the MQL4 language has changed, and this may have interfered with your installed Expert Advisors (EAs) and indicators.

As a result of this upgrade, you should firstly save your EAs and indicators in the new folder location, which is: MT4 > MQL4 > Experts/Indicators.

Secondly, you will need to align your EAs and indicators with the new language to ensure they are fully functional on the updated MT4 platform. To do this, there are two options:

Option 1: Contact your EA provider if you do not have the source code available and request an updated version of the EA.

Option 2: If you have written your own EAs or you do have the source code available, please follow these steps:

• Navigate to Tools > MetaQuotes Language Editor – a new window will appear
• Navigate to View > Navigator – the Navigator box will appear in this window (if not shown already)
• Double-click on the EA/indicator you would like to use and update – the relevant EA script will appear in the main window
• Alternatively navigate to File > Open to locate the relevant EA/indicator source code saved on your computer
• Click on Compile in the toolbar on top of the main window (or navigate to File > Compile) – a message will appear in the Toolbox window at the bottom
• Once this has completed and there are no error messages displayed you will need to close and reopen MT4 – your EAs and indicators should now be ready to use

Hi everyone,

From Friday, 1 August 2014 MetaTrader 4 (MT4) builds below 600 for desktop will no longer be supported.

This means that if you are using a build below 600, you will no longer be able to trade or connect to your broker.

We highly recommend that you upgrade to the latest build of MT4 for uninterrupted trading. The new build features a completely revised MQL4 language, capable of running the latest trading apps.

How do I know what build I’m using?

To check what build of MT4 you’re using go to Help > About from the platform’s toolbar. The build number will be displayed in the bottom-left of the About window.

How do I upgrade to the latest build?

Before you upgrade, we recommend you back up your Expert Advisors, indicators, libraries, profiles and template folders to a safe location. During the upgrade your current folders will be saved to a different location and may be difficult to locate.

Please follow the below steps to back up your folders and download the latest MT4 platform build:

  1. Find these folders on your PC. The below table shows where these folders are typically saved:

  1. Save these folders to your PC’s desktop.

  2. Upgrade the platform to the latest build.

When you log in to MT4 you should receive an automatic prompt asking you to upgrade – click ‘Yes’ to upgrade to the latest build. Alternatively, you can download the latest build here.

Once MT4 is upgraded, you’ll need to copy your saved folders to a new location.

  1. Log in to the platform and go to File > Open data folder > MQL4 folder

The MQL4 folder will show you where you need to save the folders you’ve just placed on your desktop.

Unless you have UAC settings disabled the folder location will be C:\Users[user name]\AppData\Roaming\MetaQuotes\Terminal[32 character long MT4 ID]\MQL4

  1. Copy your saved folders to this location.

For example, the EA folder on your desktop will now have the following file directory: C:\Users[user name]\AppData\Roaming\MetaQuotes\Terminal[32character long MT4 ID]\MQL4\Experts

Your Expert Advisors, indicators, libraries, profiles and template should now be available in your updated build.

Further to our decision to accept “close-only” trades on the Russian rouble, please note that we will no longer be offering trading in the USDRUB pair from 10am (UK time) on Wednesday 17 December, by which time you should ensure that any existing positions are closed.

Please note that any positions remaining open after this time will be automatically closed and due to the extreme volatility and lack of liquidity in this pair, this may result in trades being closed out at a less favourable price than that quoted at 10am (UK time).

Due to lack of liquidity you may not be able to execute via the platform and in this instance please call our Dealing Desk team on +44 207 426 2950.
