Yep, I sent them an email a few months back about the monthly gain and I got a snotty reply to RTFM. I still think it totally over inflates the gain to give you that ‘pounds signs in eyes’ feeling.

On the flipside, ROI calculations always surprise me as how low the % is.

It doesn’t calculate it from the beginning of the month, but based on your (initial?) deposit. (I only had one deposit, and it compares to that, I don’t know what it would do with several deposits.)

Here are the figures for the 150 pip S\L:

Haven’t got time to follow the trades. But I got 2 TP, and 1 break even trade since I last checked. Can someone tell me how much drawdown they got with the break even trade on 05.19?

Megadroid fans:

I had a trade on both wed and thursday. Both had gone $80 in the hole before coming back for a $15 profit each day. this is on a live $1200 account
still only one lossing trade and over 30 wins.

For me 0.3 risk = risk 36% when SL=150 pips.

I guess that tells it all.

While a 36% loss is indeed insane, you should keep in mind that MD does not go for just the TP or the SL levels. In most cases if the trade goes bad, it will close off the trade way before hitting SL.

Unfortunately there ARE circumstances where I can imagine it hitting the SL. Rare, but imaginable, and I would not want to lose a third of my account at these times.

Wendy, YOur account is set at .3 for risk? Mine is set at .15 ( 15%) HOw many losses have you had at .3 risk the last few months?

Thanks

Good day, folks.

New to the forum, and new to Forex in general. Stopped by this thread to pick up some savvy regarding bot trading: Looks like MD is pretty much the best way of not losing your shirt with a commercial EA these days

However, I’m a bit confused as to how this all works out for someone in the US:

According to FXCM –

“A major new National Futures Association (NFA) rule goes into effect on August 1, 2009. This rule affects all U.S. regulated Forex Dealer Members. Forex traders will no longer have the ability to place stop-loss or limit orders. Nor will traders be able to modify or close trades from the “Open Positions” window. As these features will be removed, all stop-loss and limit orders held on FXCM LLC accounts at the close of trading on July 31, 2009, will be deleted.”

Furthermore, I have heard that, flowing from this move, no U.S. brokers are allowed to offer the MetaTrader 4.0 platform.

???

So, what could I, as a US citizen, do to get moving with a good MD/broker/platform setup? I’ve seen a lot of back-and-forth in this thread about MD performance vs. different brokers, etc.; but all looks as if the forgoing NFA announcement has everyone working offshore nowadays.

Don’t want to be a bother, but can folks share some basic savvy from their keen setups for a US noob? I’d like to jump in and start demoing as soon as I can…

Thanks a pipfull

Hi,

I guess you need to get a broker thats not NFA regulated. With regards to setting up a demo: Just download the demo platform from Alpari UK and get going.

@Doom Lord:

Thanks for the quick reply

On the basis of the apparent compatibility of Alpari UK with MD, I’d really like to get set up with them from soup to nuts. However, apart from a simple demo account, they evidently won’t service folks in the US at all?!? So, if I could, I’d like to start by demoing with a broker/setup that I could transition live to at a future point…

On that note, does anyone have some savvy concerning a safe, non-NFA broker for a US guy which performs well with MD???

Thanks again!

Try Gomarkets, an Australian broker. I’ve been with them for some time and use MD with them. My trades are about 95% the same as Alpari UK. I think they have recently been allowed to take on OS clients.

@Dono:

Thanks for the awesome tip! Checking out the site right now…

Any other fav’s???

Thanks, all

Yeah 0.3. Never hit a 150pips SL but 4 normal losses i think

Hi All,

I’ve been following these posts for a few days now, I bought MD last night.

I’ve installed MD and was hoping to see some results with the Strategy Test as per the MD manual, but NOTHING?

Is there something I’ve done wrong?

I’ve got a demo accout with gotrader.com.au (gomarketsaus.com, gomarkets.com.au - how many domains do these guys have?), and I’ve done the download of EURUSD 1M data and corrected the timeframes again and again, but each test results in nothing… weird!

TIA,
thegame

*** EDIT: Ugh!, I just realised I was reporting for a range for which I had no data…

As for the people using gomarketsaus.com, would you let me know your settings?

Also just wondering how many of you actually change your strategy 1 & 2 reference numbers regularly? If so how regularly? Every day, Every second day, Every week, etc?

MD took a trade last night an hit the SL. Anyone else get this trade?

No trade for me on AlpariUK since the 20th. I guess I’m glad I missed this one, although MD was running.

No Trades for me on GoMarkets.

From your other post as well…I run mine with all the regular out of the box settings.
GoMarkets are pretty good and I gave up on changing the Magic Numbers except when I think MD needs a reboot on my VPS. My trades near mirror Alpari UK and in 9 or 12 months I have had about 3 losses so I trust GoMarkets are’nt up to any funny business…in saying all that, changing the MN is a 30 second job so change it at will.
