Extending unemployment actually stimulates the economy more then tax breaks for the rich!!! Because that makes total sense…

Republicans Tout Bush Tax Cuts, But Extending Unemployment Benefits Would Support 400,000 Jobs | ThinkProgress

Now back to Jersey Shore.

I used to think raising taxes on rich would help. It made sense to me. Now I know that even if you did, it wouldn’t make a dent in our debt. Then I find out, that raising the taxes stagnates the economy and sometimes hurts it.

It’s hard to argue statistics unless there is something to refute them. Which I don’t have.

With that in mind though it’s hard for me to believe those numbers when I see something like this:
Describing EPI | Economic Policy Institute

I can’t believe there is no bias with this organization being so heavily funded by unions. It’d be interesting to find out who these foundations are.

Worse than jersey shore I think is 16 and pregnant. Whenever I see a kid watching that show I cringe a little.

We need to stop spending money. Not tax increases. Credit is a terrible thing for consumers IMO.

I think all conservatives and libertarians know that. Nobody wants to cut, its political suicide. Just keep running up the debt, and blame capitalism when everything collapses.

Also pensions. I know some of that is for regular people like postal workers and such but do senators really need 150k every year to pass bills like this

Bah, I hate that. It’s a pet peeve of mine when they call it ‘defense’ spending.

We NEED political suicide.

Term limits on all congressional offices would be a good start.

Yeah, didn’t say we didn’t need it. Just saying no politician would do it

Don’t worry guys. A few brilliant economists have found a loophole. It’s called the “Platinum Coin Option”

“Some economists and legal scholars have suggested that the “platinum coin option” is one way to defuse a crisis if Congress can’t or won’t lift the debt ceiling soon… what happens if there’s another showdown this year? Enter the platinum coins. Thanks to an odd loophole in current law, the U.S. Treasury is technically allowed to mint as many coins made of platinum as it wants and can assign them whatever value it pleases. Under this scenario, the U.S. Mint would produce (say) a pair of trillion-dollar platinum coins. The president orders the coins to be deposited at the Federal Reserve. The Fed then moves this money into Treasury’s accounts. And just like that, Treasury suddenly has an extra $2 trillion to pay off its obligations for the next two years — without needing to issue new debt.”

Insane: Liberals Contemplate $1 Trillion Platinum Coin to “Solve” Debt Limit Issue - Guy Benson

Seems like a great Idea.

I’m confused.

With that logic, why not just mint enough coins to pay off our entire debt. Or just make one coin worth 17 trillion.

What would happen to the dollar if we just printed off an instant 2 trillion?

I’d be a rich man.

Here’s a humorous article from the British Telegraph on a popular French actor who’s relocating to Belgium over the recent socialist tax policies. We Americans have our Clint Eastwood. The French have…Gerard Depardieu.

Gérard Depardieu to return French passport - Telegraph

Heh, I’m sure insulting him gives him more incentive to stay.

Feinstein to introduce assault weapons ban bill – CNN Political Ticker - CNN.com Blogs yay more rules.

…and this includes Ralphie’s Red Ryder BB gun!

33,000 people died in automobile accidents last year. Feinstein better introduce a bill to ban automobiles.

My opinion on the hysteria about “Assault Rifles”

Around 1,500 children are killed each year by their own parents.

The vast majority will be killed without the use of a gun. This is the annual average. Around 5 per day, 30 per week, 1,500 per year.

I’m not trying to diminish the absolute horror of last Friday’s events, I’m just providing another perspective. I find it interesting how easy it is to get society to focus on one particular ball.

Rifles were used in homicides 323 times last year. Of those, roughly 7% of them were with an “Assault Rifle”. That is 23 people killed last year with “assault rifles”

Source: FBI — Expanded Homicide Data Table 8

Your odds of getting killed by an “assault rifle” are 1 in 13,521,739
Your odds of getting killed by a drunk driver are 1 in 17,334

In short, you are 780x more likely to get killed by a drunk driver.

Also, it is interesting to note that gun homicide rates have already been going down, that is even when population increases are factored in.

Aren’t there bigger fish to fry?

Yeah, I hopefully will never NEED to use my assault rifle but in a crazy event, it would be ideal to have one. They can be used for hunting and are very effective for use in home defense. The round that is typically used in an “assault rifle” such as the one I have is a .223 (5.56x45mm) This is a very light round, when compared to standard hunting rounds (308, 30-06, 7mm) In the event that some criminal busts through my window, I will not have to worry about the bullet going through the wall and killing my neighbors, and my eardrums won’t be destroyed like they would be with a shotgun.

Why do I need an Assault rifle?

Why do you need a car with excessive horsepower and is capable of going 200mph? That is just asking for trouble, right? Maybe we should ban those.

Why do you need 2,000 tv channels?

Why do you need a 20 terrabite hard drive?

You shouldn’t have to express a need to exercise a right. I hope I will never need to empty an entire magazine, but in the event that I have to, it is there. It is also good for recreational shooting and target practice. High capacity magazines have been around for nearly a century and we are just now complaining about them. It is better to have something that is capable of very good performance, than something that will just get you by.

Also, most homicides are done with Handguns… 6,220 in 2011 to be exact, however that is down from 7,400 in 2007. Overall gun homicides of all types of firearms have been steadily trending downwards thanks to the growing trend of CCW permit holders.

My point is, this debate over “Assault Rifles” is actually a total waste of time, resources and air. The effort that is being wasted on this, should be spent on something actually useful.

Imagine if all this anti-“Assault Rifle” hysteria was channeled into something useful, that could actually save a significant amount of lives, like cancer research, fighting drunk driving or obesity?

The ability to carry or own a firearm is a right, not a commandment. I respect the rights of any individual who chooses not to carry or own a firearm, I only ask that the same courtesy be granted to me when I chose to exercise my right to do so.

Gun Owners are actually people. We have feelings as well, despite what the media makes us out to be. Contrary to the erratic claims of many individuals, we do not enjoy seeing these shootings happen. It deeply grieves us to see such repulsive things happen in our society. My thoughts and prayers go to all the victims of the shooting and to the victims of the mass shootings and massacres that would still happen, even if a ban was passed.

It also grieves me to see so much hatred being lashed out against gun owners, such as myself. I am certainly not responsible for the actions of insane individuals. My lifestyle did not lead to this shooting. My 30rd magazines and my ar15 was not used in this crime.

I want these massacres to end as much as the next guy and I understand that banning firearms is not the solution. History has shown us that the last time we Banned Assault Weapons, we still had mass shootings as well as an INCREASE in bombings and other types of massacres.

In the United States, When you ban guns, you open up an even more dangerous can of warms as criminals decide to get more creative.

Skydiving seems dangerous and unnecessary. I don’t call for bans on it.

I don’t drink Alcohol or smoke. I don’t call for federal bans on alcohol or cigarettes.

Race Car driving is not safe. I don’t call for bans on it…

I respect the rights of other individuals to do things that I don’t necessarily support, so long as they don’t harm other people in the process. I only ask that in return my rights as a law abiding citizen are respected as well.

Can anyone actually define Assault Rifle? Its a term used by the media to to create hype. All the guns that I own are of the wooden stalk variety…(what can i say i like the John Wayne look) I can do the same amount of damage with one of these as with a rifle with a synthetic stalk that’s painted black.

P.S. Buy your guns now folks. Its only going to get harder the more misinformed the public gets.

you can’t buy “assault rifles” because there’s no such thing, impossible just because of sheer non-existance…indeed that is why the “Assault weapons ban” expired in 2004, there was no definitions, besides just the adjustable stock, barrel shroud (which for a .22 LR is completely useless, looks cool, though), and pistol-type grip. Basically they want to ban anything that is better than ordinary hunting guns for home defense use, which is where the stock and pistol grip come in handy…
Now, I am going to go out the proverbial limb and say what nobody else is saying…these politicians, a small minority who are against guns, may have good intentions, but the majority of politicians who say they want all these bans, really want more massacres, more deaths, more terror, any reason to expand their power, to which they are hopelessly addicted. Completely evil, irrational, committed fools, they don’t care about over 1 million unborn lives killed every year, the elderly killed by sick doctors who give in to perverted relatives, the many break-ins, and killings due to the acts of drug addicts. They are the front of absolute evil, which has tried twice, in the last century, with almost success, the 2nd time, to take the world, targeting the US and any other place of freedom. They take guns and money and hand out condoms and debt.
Utterly disgusting. As soon as news broke, they were already falling over themselves to denounce “the gun”. It was all the gun’s fault. The gun just walked into the place and started killing people until the cops showed up, than just magically stopped. We are not so utterly stupid. I’ve had to turn any kind of media off, to stop the endless insults of our intelligence. We all know the only solution to someone walking in somewhere and shooting is to have someone else shoot them, the sooner, the better…that is the only real solution. You are witnessing our culture absolutely crumble, taken captive from the inside…can you imagine a free nation, holding out there hands (just a majority, not everybody-we’re still here) to be handcuffed to evil, to give up without a fight, to make the blood previous generations shed, lives they gave, of only temporary benefit? Know this- before WW1, the culture was rotting, and WW1 ended up bringing the culture back from the brink, only to have it fall again a decade later, then WW2 did it again, but the thing is the price was extremely high. This time, the tipping point, I believe, may have been reached, and while another global conflict is setting up, quite obviously, I don’t see us as a nation, taking a good stand.

If stabbed you in the leg with a knife, I would be arrested for “assault” with a deadly weapon…

Even if it was a kitchen knife.

Crazy world we live in.

How does that translate to defining an assault rifle?
