Political Opinion

Another thing to keep in mind about American politics is that 90% of legislation is agenda-based and comes with a lot of money attached.

Fuc* Obama, Biden and all of them!

Happy Monday morning Everyone, hope you all had a great weekend

He is more your president than mine. The 2000s have been a sad century for US presidents, At this point, I would welcome back Jimmy Carter, now that is a low bar

That is absolutely what it is, we have two Americas, City and Rural, If you want a visual example just watch the movie Hunger Games, Someone here noted the wealth in the states around Washington DC, then you have the wealth of California at the other end of the country, those of us in the middle are left to fight for the scraps. That is the movie Hunger Games and we are clearly living in the backstory

I remember the civil rights marches of MLK, while the rural south had its problems, the real violence came in northern cities.

God help us

It is important that America maintains a peaceful environment this week, no protests should be violent

Chris Rock on point.

Chris Rock says arresting Donald Trump is like arresting Tupac Shakur: ‘He’s just going to sell more records. Are you stupid?’

Comedian Chris Rock said on Sunday that arresting Donald Trump would only boost his popularity.

He compared the possible indictment to how Tupac Shakur released a bestselling album from prison.

Rock was likely joking, but right-wing figures also say Trump could benefit from being indicted.

Comedian Chris Rock said arresting former President Donald Trump would be like imprisoning Tupac Shakur — arguing that it’ll only boost the bombastic 2024 presidential candidate and help Trump rally more support.

“Are you guys really going to arrest Trump?” Rock asked on stage at a Sunday event to award the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor to Adam Sandler, per multiple reports.

Rock joked that apprehending Trump “is only going to make him more popular,” The Guardian’s David Smith and Deadline reported.

“It is like arresting Tupac. He’s just going to sell more records,” Rock said, per Deadline.

"Are you stupid? He slept with a porn star and paid off someone so his wife wouldn’t find out. That’s romantic," Rock said.

You know how far American politics has fallen when Chris Rock becomes the voice of reason

Great timing, gotta love this guy, he took advantage of his supporters in his first fundraiser, so why not continue the trend, Stupid Is As Stupid Does.

Trump is using the news of his looming indictment to fundraise on Truth Social, asking supporters to help ‘take back our Country’

Former President Donald Trump is using his looming indictment for fundraising on Truth Social.

Trump said he would be “arrested” next week and called for his followers to protest.

Trump’s attorney said he was basing his claim on “tea leaves” and a Fox News report.

True to form, former President Donald Trump is using his looming indictment to fundraise.

On Monday, Trump shared a minute-long attack ad with suspenseful music bashing Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s on Truth Social, spreading a litany of conspiracy theories and allegations about the DA. The video followed days of other attacks on Bragg, as well as fundraising efforts that followed his posts about a possible indictment.

In a Truth Social post on Saturday, Trump said he expects to be “arrested” on Tuesday, though his attorneys previously told Insider’s Laura Italiano on Saturday they could not confirm that information and said he was “basing this on press reports.”

A few hours after Trump called for his followers to “protest” and “take our nation back,” he shared a fundraising video.

“If you are doing poorly, as so many of you are, do not send anything. If you are doing well, which was made possible through the great policies of the Trump Administration, send your contribution,” Trump wrote, listing his website for donations.

“We have to take back our Country and, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” the former president added.

Again on Monday, Trump’s Save America Joint Fundraising Committee referenced the indictment in a fundraising plea and asked for donations “to show that you will never surrender,”

The NY charges themselves aren’t a concern for Trump, since they likely won’t result in jail time, but what he is worried about (and rightly so) is that once NY takes all the heat from being the first to indict a former president, it will be much easier for Georgia and the DOJ to indict him on much more serious charges in the future.

New York holds breath over expected Trump indictment

With barricades set up near Trump Tower and police on high alert, New York was holding its breath Wednesday for the likely indictment of Donald Trump, but the timing remained uncertain.

The ex-president himself claimed he would be arrested on Tuesday over hush money paid to a pornographic actress, but the day came and went and there were no signs of an indictment or arrest.

Some US media speculated that the grand jury hearing the case could vote to indict on Wednesday, but that it may be next week before Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg announces any charges and Trump is arraigned before a judge.

Bragg, an elected Democrat, has not confirmed any plans publicly and grand juries operate in secret to prevent perjury or witness tampering before trials, making it virtually impossible to follow their proceedings.

The DA has put key witnesses in front of the panel in recent weeks and offered Trump the opportunity to testify, hinting that an indictment is close.

The 76-year-old Republican would become the first former or sitting president to be charged with a crime if an indictment is filed – a move that would send shock waves through the 2024 White House race, in which Trump is running to regain office.

The New York Police Department has geared up for an unprecedented arrest or self-surrender, which would see an ex-leader of the United States booked, fingerprinted and possibly even handcuffed, by erecting barricades outside Bragg’s office and Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue.

i’m sure that’s right (and it’s what some of the European media seem to be saying today, too)

Happy Hump day everyone one

What Americans want to see is the law applied equally regardless of political party or wealth. Using last years oscars as an example, if any of us had walked on to that stage and slapped Chris Rock, we would had been immediately arrested and likely would still be in jail today. You can literally get away with murder in this country if you have money and the right political connections

More examples

Look at the harsh treatment of those who illegally entered the capital building on Jan. 6th. and compare that to the treatment of those who in the summer of 2020 looted and burned our major cities, In Seattle a group took over an entire city bock including government buildings and held it for over a month, are any of them still in jail?

Now tell me who commited the bigger crime

joe biden as vice president threat to withhold economic aid to Ukraine if they didn’t fire the prosecutor
investigating hunter biden’s business dealings
or
President DJT asking Ukraine to reopen the investigation

Seems pretty simple to me, but everyone is entitled to their opinion

Hunger Games here we come

Hi flamingoproxy, I am always interested in how media outside the US is reporting on US events. Do they simply mimic US media or have they remained independent and offered a different perspective?

please feel free to join the conversation

You have a good day

When two people commit the same crime in the same city and at two different locations in the same state, they rarely receive the same sentence, both convicted of the same offense.

I would get more time if I robbed a bank and another person robbed a store in the same city and state, both convicted of the same offense.

I love how some people now want everything to be equal, from laws to rights to how we should all be treated.

Are we back to strawman arguments, Speaking for myself I have always championed equal treatment under the law and rights should apply to everyone equally as well.

Let’s hear from everyone, which one of these two statements best describes you? In this upside-down world, maybe I am the strawman

Does 2+2 still equal 4?

Every case is different, You know that. Don’t, as you always do, attach your feelings to what I said.

EXAMPLE: You don’t think the judge will take into account If I murder a retired judge or police officer into consideration when deciding my sentence?

I’m sure the judge took into consideration it was the capital building and why they was there

When you talk about harsh treatment, where were you? When exactly did the GOP begin discussing harsh treatment?

Sen. Elizabeth Warren Speaks Out on Harsh Treatment of Jan. 6 Detainees – Cowardly Republicans Remain Silent

Senator Liz Warren is the only lawmaker brave enough to speak out against the harsh treatment of the January 6 detainees.

Kudos to Elizabeth Warren and Dck Durbin!

They show more humanity than any Republican in Congress today.

Shame on these spineless Republicans!

Where are you GOP? Dems speak up over harsh treatment of Jan 6 riot detainees, while Republicans ignore

Republicans are being criticized for staying silent about the reportedly harsh treatment of people arrested and detained in connection with the Jan. 6 Capitol riot while some leading Democrats speak out about it.

You can’t compel your faithful heart to say or make the best decision When it’s your own party

Correct !

Incorrect - “The Law” - does not allow for “Equal treatment” of “White men” !

Such a statement would only come from a lesser man.

The republicans will need to come up with a solid plan or else they run the risk of being expose for what they really are: clueless.

Americans could lose $20,000 in retirement savings and private student-loan borrowers could see their payments surge if Republicans don’t raise the debt ceiling.

With the US expected to run out of extraordinary measures to pay its bills as soon as July, Democratic lawmakers — and President Joe Biden — have been slamming GOP lawmakers for failing to put forth a plan to raise the debt limit and keep the country from default, which would be unprecedented with severe consequences. The JEC report highlighted how Americans could be impacted should the country default for the first time ever this year.

“This report shows that a Republican default crisis means real dollars coming out of American families’ wallets and savings decimated. This is not a hypothetical exercise to the millions of Americans – including veterans and seniors – who rely on the United States government for benefits, pensions, and disability,” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said in a statement.

“House Republicans’ approach is dangerous and destabilizing,” he continued. “Even the threat of a breach will raise costs on everything from car loans to mortgages. Republicans are gambling with Americans’ savings, benefits, and lives, all to play a political game.”

Over the past week, the White House has been ramping up its attacks on the conservative House Freedom Caucus over its plan to raise the debt ceiling, but only if Congress passes legislation that block student-debt relief, recoup unspent pandemic funds, and end environmental programs, among other things.

“The Freedom Caucus’s devastating cuts to families’ budgets and American priorities would not reduce the deficit because they would just go toward paying for MAGA House Republicans’ $3 trillion in tax cuts skewed to the wealthy and large corporations,” a White House official said in a statement to Insider.

That is a sad truth, for some the solution for past inequality is with more inequality against the grandchildren of those that may have benefited in the distant past. I see this less about correcting a wrong and simply looking for revenge

Speaking as an American, my country will remain a socially divided nation as long as laws are applied unequally, and based on race, gender and politics

If this is truth then it is not sad - it is wrong.

Then again sometimes what is actually true can be more difficult to discern than what is right or wrong?
