Donald Trump’s businesses received millions in payments from foreign governments while he was in office, report finds

Donald Trump continued to profit from foreign governments while he was US president, with businesses tied to him receiving at least $US7.8 million ($11.6 million) in foreign payments from 20 countries during his four years in the White House, Democratic congressional investigators say.

US House of Representatives Oversight Committee Democrats said the payments detailed in the 156-page report are likely a fraction of the foreign payments made to Mr Trump and his family during his 2017-2021 administration.

The report discussed four properties, less than 1 per cent of the 558 corporate entities Mr Trump owned either directly or indirectly as president.

Mr Trump’s accounting firm did not provide documents regarding at least 80 per cent of Mr Trump’s business entities, congressional investigators said.

@Xanaphlaxes My worry is the US may not vote soon enough… If you were a despot with an expansionist agenda… You would hit while the US Government is in disarray… Weaponry dispersed across two theatres of combat already… The Ukraine and the Middle East…

Biden is no Commander in Chief… Trump is an unknown quantity… Do I think Russia will attack the US Mainland… No… It’s all leverage against NATO expansion and the Ukraine…

Cuban Missile Crisis 2.0… Oh… What short memories the US Politicians have…

But… China has real eyes on Taiwan and needs to make a decision before the November Elections… Biden’s Administration is clumsy and slow…

So they need to decide soon… Do they enclave Taiwan while the Devil they know is asleep in the White House or after November when the Devil they don’t really know may destroy them economically…

I had this in mind when posting about my annual ethics disclosure. Things like this would not fly at my meager job.

One could say that Trump runs hotels and has done so for a very long time. Harder for him to divest in that situation.
Still, its a conflict of interest at minimum.

Serious question. What could Trump have done, or could he do with his hotel empire to prevent conflict of interest?

This is what I meant when I posted that neither of them could pass ethics disclosure.

The Russians are doing what they do, they have done something similar in 2019.

Russia is expected to begin naval, air exercises in Caribbean, U.S. official says

The U.S. expects Russia to begin air and naval exercises in the Caribbean in the coming weeks, according to a U.S. official.

The exercises, which will involve Russian warships and long-range bombers, will be the first simultaneous air and naval maneuvers Russia has conducted in the Caribbean since 2019. The U.S. is interpreting them as a response to American support for Ukraine and stepped-up U.S. exercises with NATO allies.

This is why i am a 100% supporter of opening up investigations into both parties and their leaders and families.

BTW: If that’s how you feel, why would you post on it?

I leave the stress and worry to you guys. don’t stress to much :joy:

Trump’s hotel empire and foreign dealings, although not illegal, represent a potential conflict of onterest
Biden receives millions from China through UPenn.
I posted that neither would pass the ethics disclosure that I have to sign annually as an engineer.

I didn’t go into detail, because I try to avoid writing an entirebook!

I still see Biden’s as worse at present (but am open to debate), because Trump was already running a hotel empire. What is he supposed to do? Stop doing business with foreigners? I really don’t know the answer.
Best case would be no questionable business fealings for Presidents, but we are far from.best case scenarios!

@Xanaphlaxes This is the major problem with this thread… As can be witnessed in the last few posts… It’s become all about the hatred of Trump…

Far bigger problems playing out in US Politics and the US in general…

We can have this conversation for days, let’s investigate and let the chips fall as they may, having an open mind should not be a problem for you

He still cries foul after you explain, but in any case it’s open season on any politician running for or currently in office.

Remember Michael Bloomberg, the Democrat Party’s alternative had joe biden shown to be incapable of running for president. Bloomberg has half his wealth tied to China

Then there is Newsom Gov. of California, Newsom is Xi Jinping’s mini-me and the Democrat Party that runs the state models itself after the CCP

Talk about selling out your country

It’s obvious from the outside that one side is barking. However, they can’t provide a single piece of evidence, how long have they been barking?

During one segment, FOX News giggled about their lack of evidence and ridiculed them

Biden wanders off at G7 summit before being pulled back by Italian PM Giorgia Meloni…

The usual walking around in circles, scratching his a-ss and bumping into things form the Leader of the Free World… US Resident Joe Biden… Make America look foolish Again… He’s still ‘the perfect puppet’.

She didn’t have to go get him but she was obviously attentive and aware of his dementia… Luckily… Someone on the Right is aware of what is going on around them…

Normally, you’d think both parties would agree to eradicate corruption, but that isn’t the case

Sen. Lindsey Graham says he will block Democrats’ effort to unanimously pass Supreme Court ethics bill

Sen. Lindsey Graham, the top Republican on the Judiciary Committee, plans to block an effort by Senate Democrats to unanimously pass a Supreme Court ethics bill Wednesday on the Senate floor.

“I will object,” Graham, R-S.C., told NBC News.

Senate Majority Whip ■■■■ Durbin, D-Ill., who chairs the Judiciary Committee, said earlier Tuesday that he would make a unanimous consent request to pass Supreme Court ethics legislation that the panel advanced last July.

Graham’s objection means the bill won’t be able to move forward, because any senator can block a request.

It isn’t clear whether the measure will come up for a vote under the normal process, but Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said he’s considering it.

Even before Graham made his comments, Democrats doubted the legislation would advance. “I think I know the outcome, but we’re going to go through the exercise to make sure that both parties are in the record,” Durbin told reporters Tuesday afternoon.

The Democratic-led Judiciary Committee advanced the Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal, and Transparency Act on a party-line vote nearly a year ago, but it can’t break a filibuster on the Senate floor without 60 votes. Democrats have 51 members, and no Republican is on board with the bill.

In a news release, Democrats said the vote follows “a myriad of apparent ethical lapses by Supreme Court justices, which demonstrate the need for ethics reform.”

A spokesperson for the Supreme Court didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday night.

Justice Clarence Thomas reported a pair of trips in 2019 with billionaire friend Harlan Crow to Bali and to the private Bohemian Grove club in California in his annual financial disclosure report, which was released last week. ProPublica reported on Thomas’ and other justices’ previously undisclosed lavish travel in a series of stories last year that raised questions about the court’s ethics.

The bill would give the court 180 days to adopt and publish a code of conduct, allowing the public to submit ethics complaints that would then be reviewed by a randomly selected panel of lower-court judges. It would also establish new rules for disclosing gifts and travel.

This is great news for the families, hope this ends the clown’s reign of terror for the families.

Judge approves liquidation of Alex Jones’ personal assets to pay Sandy Hook victims’ families

A Texas bankruptcy court judge has approved the liquidation of conspiracy theorist Alex Jones’ personal assets, setting the stage for repayment to the families of Sandy Hook shooting victims.

Last week, Jones agreed to convert his personal bankruptcy into a Chapter 7 liquidation. Judge Christopher Lopez on Friday agreed to that move.

Jones’ decision to seek bankruptcy protection comes after he agreed to demands from the families of Sandy Hook victims, whom he owes more than $1 billion in damages he caused by lying about the 2012 school massacre.

The seismic ruling paves the way for Jones to no longer own Infowars, the influential conspiracy empire he founded in the late 1990s. Over the years, Jones has used the media company to poison the public discourse with lies and conspiracy theories, and he also enriched himself, making millions of dollars in the process.

Well it’s a tiny fraction of the amount owed to the families - but it’s a symbol.

The judge did not order the liquidiation of the parent company of infowars so that entity remains in business - “We gotta celebrate the fact that we’re not dead yet,” - quote attributed to that site and apparently by Jones

He knew the truth all along, which is the sad part, Man has no good in him, pure evil.

Yes, Biden has declined and he has wandered off before, but what’s going on here, Was he wandering off this time?

Conservative media uses misleading camera angle of Biden to falsely claim he was wandering aimlessly

A different angle, captured by NBC News, shows that President Joe Biden was walking to give a thumbs-up to parachuters who had just landed in a demonstration.

Conservative media outlets selectively used a camera angle that left out important context to spread a claim Thursday and Friday that President Joe Biden wandered off from a meeting of world leaders, but the full video at another angle captured by NBC News tells a different story.

Instead of wandering off, Biden was walking toward a group of parachutists who had just landed in an Italian clearing and gave them two thumbs-up.

The deceptive video began spreading online shortly after a photo opportunity at the G7 summit in Puglia, in southern Italy. Biden and other leaders from some of the world’s largest economies stood on a green lawn while people in military uniforms parachuted in carrying oversized flags of the different countries.

Several cameras, including one from NBC News, were present to document the meeting, where Biden was expected to push for more support for Ukraine in its war against Russia.

But the cameras captured slightly different angles, and Biden’s critics seized on one of them to push their allegation that Biden, 81, is absent-minded and too old to be president.

The video is one of many that have circulated widely online in recent weeks attempting to cast relatively normal moments as gaffes or evidence that Biden is suffering from a mental decline. Experts have warned that while advanced technology like generative artificial intelligence can spread misinformation, so-called cheapfakes that often use only minor or selective editing can be more effective at spreading false narratives.

The NBC News video contains nothing to suggest that Biden wandered, a word that often implies aimless walking. Instead, it shows he was walking toward a specific destination: a group of at least three kneeling parachutists.

Many of the deceptive videos went viral on X, which under owner Elon Musk has transformed into an increasingly influential media outlet in conservative circles — one that’s hostile to the Biden administration and where false stories spread with few checks by the platform.

The New York Post, controlled by the conservative Murdoch family, posted a video Thursday that appeared to be taken with a phone in the vertical position, meaning that it showed little of what was happening on either side of Biden. The video shows Biden walking about seven steps away from the other leaders, seemingly with no destination, and giving at least one thumb-up to whatever was off-camera. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni follows him, touches his arm and directs Biden’s attention in the opposite direction.

The New York Post, in text superimposed on the video, said that Biden “appears to wander off” and “has to be pulled back.” Its post on X got 4.2 million videos, according to X’s tally Friday.

Andrew Bates, the White House senior deputy press secretary, criticized the Post’s reporting.

“The Murdoch outlets are so desperate to distract from @POTUS’s record that they just lie,” he wrote on X.

“The Murdoch outlets are so desperate to distract from @POTUS’s record that they just lie,” he wrote on X.

“Here, they use an artificially narrow frame to hide from viewers that he just saw a skydiving demonstration,” he wrote. “He’s saying congratulations to one of the divers and giving a thumbs up.” His post received 2.4 million views.

A spokesperson for the Post did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday.

But the claims continued from conservative and Republican accounts, which used the same video or other camera angles with limited context. A post from a Republican National Committee used a video that, although it had a wider angle, still did not show what Biden was walking toward. It received 2.9 million views on X.

“WHAT IS BIDEN DOING?” the RNC post asked. The RNC did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday.

A post on X from Clay Travis, a conservative talk radio host, used the same video as the RNC. He wrote that Biden “just goes wandering off” and that other national leaders “are babysitting our president in Italy.” His post received 1.1 million views. In a follow-up post Friday, Travis said he stood by his view that Biden is not mentally fit to be president.

The RNC’s and Travis’ posts did not have community notes on them Friday, though X users had proposed some and were in the process of voting.

The NBC News video angle clearly includes what the others did not: the group of kneeling parachutists who were only steps away from Biden. As they’re kneeling, Biden walks toward them, stops and gives them two thumbs-up. At least one of them appears to acknowledge Biden by standing at attention.

Meloni does pull Biden back to the group as someone appears to begin speaking, but there’s no indication in the NBC News video that Biden was unaware of his surroundings.

Deceptive videos of Biden have become a common tactic during the 2024 presidential campaign, which features Biden and 78-year-old former President Donald Trump. Last year, conservative pundits used low-quality video to spread a false claim that Biden fell asleep during a memorial for wildfire victims in Hawaii.

‘They are pushing disinformation’: Right-wing media shares clip of Biden minus context

This week, right-wing media seized on a moment at the G7 Summit where President Biden apparently ‘wandered off’ while taking a group photograph. Yet the moment shared to X, formerly Twitter, by the account RNC Research, which is managed by former President Donald Trump’s campaign and the Republican National Committee lacks context.

He did seem to be wandering off, shifting his focus to the kneeling parachutists to give a thumbs up
