What's cooking?

Another alchohol I’d like to try:

I supposed I’m more curious about the serving method than the alcohol itself.

The serving glasses alone are enough to get me curious!

In Germany, there are many alcoholic drinks similar to Jagermeister, and they are quite popular here )

In Germany, we also have ‘Spezi’, which is a mixture of cola and orange juice )

But we also have “Mett” )
It is traditionally prepared from raw pork mince, seasoned with onions, salt, and pepper. Mett is often served on a bun or bread, and it’s a popular snack in German bars and for breakfast

Ok, pause. How is this NOT dangerous?

As per google:
Though Trichinella parasites are largely a thing of the past, raw pork consumption in Germany has been linked to bacterial infections like yersiniosis, salmonella, and Campylobacter coli, according to a study in Epidemiology & Infection.

Eating rare pork vs raw beef is different because pork meat is less dense and hence easier for germs/bacteria to travel deeper into the meat. Beef is more dense, so, once the outside is cooked, you’re safe.

Ground meat is the most dangerous because whatever germs/bacteria that was on the outside of the meat, is now mixed on the inside. That’s why eating beef burgers rare is a bad idea.

But if you can cook that pork for 7 minutes on medium heat, before putting it on that bread, then I’m in!

@Paul_J7 Have you ever had any problems after eating it?

This looks good!! What kind of snack do you enjoy this with? Popcorn?

I don’t have a problem with texture of raw food. My only concern is safety. Is it safe to eat raw chicken, too?

As per google:
‘Sushi-grade’ fish is the term given to fish that shows it is safe to prepare and eat raw. Sushi-grade fish is caught quickly, bled upon capture, gutted soon after, and iced thoroughly. Known parasitic fish, such as salmon, should be frozen at 0°F for 7 days or flash-frozen at -35°F for 15 hours.

Rare pork is undercooked. Both uncooked or raw pork and undercooked pork are unsafe to eat. Meat sometimes has bacteria and parasites that can make you sick. Thorough cooking kills any germs that might be present.

I’ve learned that just because something becomes normalized, that doesn’t mean it’s now alright.
If we’ve learned anything from the crash of 2008, it’s the idea that everyone CAN be wrong.

Hahaha))) I think it’s safe because you can buy it in all shops in Germany. However, it’s not tasty to me

Spezi, just Spezi)
You can try making it at home: cola + orange juice or fanta

You got me there. I’m always suspicious of ¨side B¨. People will tell you one side of the story, the good side, but not the bad side.

I wonder what drawbacks he has experienced. He says that he eats grassfed beef, and everything is locally sourced. That means it’s transported less, meaning less possible contamination.

To be honest, his way is closer to the natural way: hunt, kill, eat. We get our meat from slaughterhouses and butcher shops. There’s all kinds of cross-contamination in those buildings that requires the meat be cooked. I guess once you eliminate that possibility of contamination, there’s no reason to cook the meat, besides preference.

Same here.

Sad story. It may be rare, but still worth being aware.

Believe it or not, in Thailand they eat raw shrimp!

I wanna say it’s gross, but how different is it from eating sushi? As far as safety, I don’t know, but texture-wise, it can’t be much different, right?

There are people who consume raw shrimp, and I have never seen that as an issue in comparison to raw pork, chicken, and fish. Eating raw meat or seafood is not my thing.

I once walk pass a man eating a can of Alpo, I was about 17yo it blew my mind.

I mostly eat raw food from animals. Meat, organs, eggs, milk, blood. It makes me calm, strong, and energetic. I don’t need to sleep as much as I used to. The only drawback is taste. It’s not as tasty as cooked food. I don’t mind sacrificing tastiness for better nutrients and health.

I’ve been eating this way for four years. I don’t want to go back to the way I used to eat because of the health benefits. I got lazy and got used to not cooking. It’s also one reason why I will be forever alone.

I never knew what french press coffee was about. It’s pretty straightforward.

In the end, even though I doubt my unsophisticated tongue could tell the difference, I think I’d prefer to use a percolator/moka pot.
