World Politics, Good Or Bad

Does anyone truly believe that Prigozhin goes free without repercussions?

He has dropped off the radar.

So perhaps the repercussions have already… repercussed (if that’s a word, I dunno).

Exiled’ Wagner Boss Returns to Russia and Gets His Weapons Back

The Russian mercenary boss who got off unscathed after staging an armed uprising against the country’s military leadership has returned to St. Petersburg to collect an arsenal of weapons confiscated from him by the security services.

Wagner Group founder Yevgeny Prigozhin was spotted Tuesday arriving at an FSB office in St. Petersburg along with his security team, local news outlet Fontanka reports. He had reportedly been invited to collect several weapons seized by security services in the wake of his attempted insurrection last month.

Authorities handed over two Saiga rifles, a Mannlicher rifle, and several other firearms, according to Fontanka. The lot reportedly also included a Glock pistol gifted to the foul-mouthed mercenary boss by none other than Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, whom Prigozhin had allegedly hoped to capture in his armed uprising and march on Rostov.

Prigozhin was also reportedly given back 10 billion rubles (more than $100 million) that law enforcement had found during a raid on one of his vehicles.

The news comes after Prigozhin released a new audio message earlier this week promising new “victories on the frontline” even as the Kremlin insists he and Wagner have been banished to Belarus.

Slowly but surely, the balance of power is shifting in the world

US under pressure from businesses, EU to avoid ‘unnecessary conflict’ with China, but ‘much could still go wrong’

Washington is under pressure from American businesses to adjust its approach to China as the US seeks to resume economic engagement with Beijing, although uncertainties still remain and may even worsen ahead of a possible leaders’ summit later this year, according to sources and analysts.

US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen is due to travel to Beijing on Thursday to meet her new Chinese counterparts in charge of economy and trade during a long-awaited four-day visit.

Some US companies, though, have been lobbying Washington to de-escalate tensions, according to sources who refused to be identified due to the sensitive nature of the issue.

“European companies are doing the same with their respective governments,” said one of the sources.

Russian agency says mercenary leader Prigozhin was aboard plane that crashed, leaving no survivors

Mercenary leader Yevgeny Prigozhin, who led a brief armed rebellion against the Russian military earlier this year, was aboard a plane that crashed north of Moscow on Wednesday, killing all 10 people on board, according to Russia’s civil aviation agency.

The crash immediately raised suspicions since the fate of the founder of the Wagner private military company has been the subject of intense speculation ever since he mounted the mutiny.

The crash also comes after Russian media reported that a top general linked to Prigozhin was dismissed from his position as commander of the air force.

Russia’s civilian aviation agency, Rosaviatsia, quickly reported that he was on the manifest and later said that, according to the airline, he was indeed on board.

All the Evidence Points To Kyiv

It’s a spy thriller that has the potential to change the course of international politics: A year ago, a secret commando blew up the Nord Stream pipelines in the Baltic Sea. Since then, investigators have been searching for the perpetrators. The leads they have found are extremely politically sensitive.

According to the findings of the investigation thus far, a commando of divers and explosives specialists chartered the Andromeda almost exactly one year ago and sailed unnoticed from Warnemünde in northern Germany across the Baltic Sea before, on September 26, 2022, blowing holes in three pipes belonging to the natural gas pipelines Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2. It was a catastrophic assault on energy supplies, a singular act of sabotage – an attack on Germany.

The operation was aimed at “inflicting lasting damage to the functionality of the state and its facilities. In this sense, this is an attack on the internal security of the state.” That’s the legal language used by the examining magistrates at the German Federal Court of Justice in the investigation into unknown perpetrators that has been underway since then.

Unknown because – even though countless criminal investigators, intelligence agents and prosecutors from a dozen countries have been searching for those behind the act – it has not yet been determined who did it. Or why. The findings of the investigation thus far, much of them coming from German officials, are strictly confidential. Nothing is to reach the public. On orders from the Chancellery.

@SmallPaul Wow… Look at you…

Watching and linking Joe Rogan’s content here on Babypips… A move toward the light…

I remember only 6 months ago how you despised JR for bringing so much of the incompetence and corruption surrounding the Biden Administration and the stupidity of the Woke out into the cleansing and disinfecting sunlight…

The greatest thing about the JRE is it doesn’t preach ideological propaganda to the masses… Unlike a few of those excrement splatted networks parading as newsrooms like CNN and MSNBC…

He lets his guests speak… And refrains from constantly interrupting and steering his interviewee’s along what are generally the host networks chosen false narratives…

You have to keep watching the Joe Rogan Experience… It’s bound to give you a more realistic view of what is really happening in Society across the United States today…

lol, I’ve been watching Joe Rogan since day one. You don’t have to agree with everything a person says just because you’re a fan.

If you follow another person blindly without your own opinion, you are worthless

You can also add FOX news to that mix.

Maybe if we stop giving immunity to drug company owners, they won’t push these types of drugs on American society.

US supreme court halts Purdue Pharma deal that shields Sacklers from lawsuits

Court agrees to hear challenge from Biden administration to legality of OxyContin maker’s bankruptcy settlement

The US supreme court has agreed to hear a challenge by Joe Biden’s administration to the legality of OxyContin maker Purdue Pharma’s bankruptcy settlement that would shield its owners, the Sackler family, from lawsuits over their role in the country’s opioid epidemic.

The court also paused bankruptcy proceedings concerning Purdue and its affiliates and said in a brief order that it would hold oral arguments in December in the administration’s appeal of a lower court’s ruling upholding the settlement. The court’s new term begins in October.

Purdue’s owners under the settlement would receive immunity in exchange for paying up to $6bn to settle thousands of lawsuits filed by states, hospitals, people who had become addicted and others who have sued the Stamford, Connecticut-based company over its misleading marketing of OxyContin.

At issue is whether US bankruptcy law allows Purdue’s restructuring to include legal protections for the Sackler family, who have not filed for personal bankruptcy.

OxyContin became a blockbuster drug. "Between 1995 and 2001, OxyContin brought in $2.8 billion in revenue for Purdue Pharma. Cumulative revenues had increased to US$31 billion by 2016 and US$35 billion by 2017. According to a 2017 article in The New Yorker, Purdue Pharma is “owned by one of America’s richest families, with a collective net worth of thirteen billion dollars”. Big Pharma still largest lobbying spender as Biden signs crackdown executive order, House seeks to pass bill lowering drug prices

President Joe Biden signed an executive order last Friday directing the Food and Drug Administration to import lower-priced drugs from Canada in his attempt to limit Big Pharma and lower costs of prescription drugs.

Under former President Donald Trump, the FDA outlined two plans to import prescription drugs from Canada. However, the FDA hasn’t approved a request from Florida, which was the only state to formally ask for permission to import prescription drugs from Canada in 2019.

Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, a trade organization that spent roughly $8.6 million on lobbying in the first quarter of 2021, sued to block the policy proposals to import lower-priced prescription drugs. Canada has also hinted that they will oppose large-scale exports.

The Pharmaceuticals and Health Products Industry spent about $92 million on lobbying in the first quarter of the year, more than any other industry.

The executive order also requests the Department of Health and Human Services to boost support for generic and biosimilar drugs as well as to develop a plan to fight off “price gouging.”

The crackdown on Big Pharma from the executive branch also comes as a new House report targets 14 pharmaceutical companies for spending more on stock buybacks and dividends than they did on research and development over a five-year period. The 14 companies spent a combined $31 million in the first quarter of 2021 on lobbying.

The House report said numerous drug companies were spending a significant percent of their research and development to suppress generic and biosimilar competition instead of on innovative research, while still raising prices of their drugs.
