6 dead, 24 wounded in shooting at Chicago-area July 4 parade

GHLAND PARK, Ill. (AP) — A gunman on a rooftop opened fire on an Independence Day parade in suburban Chicago on Monday, killing at least six people, wounding 24 and sending hundreds of marchers, parents with strollers and children on bicycles fleeing in terror, police said. The suspect remained on the loose hours later as authorities scoured the area.

The July 4 shooting was just the latest to shatter the rituals of American life. Schools, churches, grocery stores and now community parades have all become killing grounds in recent months. This time, the bloodshed came as the nation tried to find cause to celebrate its founding and the bonds that still hold it together.

Pretty crazy holiday weekend. This feels like it’s happening almost daily now. So awful.

It looks like the shooter’s father sponsored his son’s gun permit even after the shooter said he was going to kill his entire family. What was he thinking?

At the news conference on Monday, Thomassen said there was no indication the attack was an “act of terror” nor motivated by gender, and police believe the victims were chosen at random. The suspect was “known to people in the psychiatric field,” he said.

Not terrorism. Known to medical professionals. Should have had any weapons.

Thank you, hero citizen

Police in Richmond, Va., said a tip from a “hero citizen” helped prevent two illegal immigrants from carrying out a planned shooting at a Fourth of July celebration.

Is this the answer?

ATF Agents Going Door To Door Looking For Your Guns!

If the gun owner is a threat to himself or other people, why not. Of course I don’t know how you do this across the country. Do we have enough law enforcement or inspectors to carry it out?

Why not make it mandatory for gun owners to do it? They go stop in at the local “inspection station”. Owning a gun is a huge responsibility. Take responsibility.

And if you don’t, they come knocking.

Man, that’s crazy. It didn’t really look like he had a plan. Just, leave the hotel and start shooting at random people and cars and buildings.

Yeah, you can tell he had no plan, just put on his gear and went shooting, but that’s scary enough.

I just checked the date on this. Maybe anywhere in the world this would be big news, but I didn’t even realize how recent it was. It was like 2 weeks ago! Didn’t even hear about it.

It’s amazing the people and car were able to run away so fast.

Just came across this awful news from Australia, @Trendswithbenefits. So sorry to hear.

Any idea what happened? Doesn’t seem like they have a clear idea why the people started shooting.

Queensland Police Ambush: Shocking Revelations About The Secret Lives Of Queensland Cop Killers

@samewise, @SmallPaul Appears to be a botched abduction case… The media is trying to paint these shooters as Far Right Nazi Conspiracy theorist’s… Truth of the matter they were heavy duty Crystal Methamphetamine users… Firearm obsessed and living in an alternate reality… What was likely to go wrong??

The nasty thing about this situation was the two cops were on the ground wounded and these dirt bags walked up and executed them in cold blood… Chilling for this country…

The Police Special Operations Group were never going to be taking any prisoners…

That’s horrible. Bad combination of bad people doing bad things and weapons.

On another note, buy back programs can work if the incentive is enough.

Paris shooting suspect expressed ‘hatred of foreigners’, says prosecutor

PARIS (Reuters) -A suspect accused of gunning down three Kurdish people in Paris told investigators of his “hatred of foreigners”, the Paris prosecutor said on Sunday.

The 69-year-old man was arrested on Friday after two men and a woman were shot dead at a Kurdish cultural centre and nearby Kurdish cafe in the French capital’s busy central 10th district. Police say the man was believed to be the only shooter.

The killings stunned a community preparing to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the unresolved murder of three activists, and prompted protests that led to clashes with police.

The suspect said during questioning that a burglary at his home in 2016 had triggered a “hatred of foreigners that became totally pathological”, prosecutor Laure Beccuau said in a statement.

Although most crime in Paris is committed by foreigners, shooting some random people from a random foreign cultural group is obviously a crazy reaction.

Taking this up with the local government is the best course of action

I know that nothing gets accomplished that way, In comparison to 20+ years in prison for murder or assault, this is a much better alternative
