My (poor) recollection was that under Reagan, somewhere between 1980-1988, the deal was that he(Reagan) would give amnesty for all the illegals in exchange for passing a law that would end illegal immigration. Reagan(R) did that. Congress(D) didn’t. EVER since then the D’s have said no enforcement(laws) without amnesty. The R’s have said you first.

What is important to the market is not the actual goods in the cpi basket nor the value of same - it’s what the number was last time for the same basket - time being last period - 1 month, 1 qtr & 1 year.
General feeling in business right now is that those numbers have peaked and with slowing economies time for some panic selling - i.e. reducing prices to reduce stock.
